Peran Penegak Hukum dalam Mewujudkan Keadilan di Indonesia: Perspektif Ulangan 16:18-20

Abstract

This article is motivated by the role of law enforcers who bear a great responsibility in realizing justice for the people of Indonesia. Law enforcers, such as the police, judges, prosecutors, and advocates, are accountable for ensuring true justice for all citizens. This aligns with the ideals of the Indonesian nation as stated in the 1945 Constitution and Pancasila, namely to achieve justice and prosperity for all Indonesian people. However, in the implementation of law enforcement in Indonesia, several obstacles still hinder the realization of justice. Law enforcers are still involved in cases of corruption, partiality toward certain groups, and unequal distribution of justice. In addition, discrimination has also had a negative impact on efforts to achieve justice in the Republic of Indonesia. The writing method used in this article is a hermeneutical approach, which seeks to understand the meaning of Deuteronomy 16:18-20 within its historical context and subsequently to contextualize its principles of justice within the reality of law enforcement in Indonesia. This approach enables the value of divine justice to be understood not only theologically but also as an ethical foundation for the role of law enforcement authorities in realizing social justice. The findings of the study of Deuteronomy 16:18–20 serve as a normative guideline for developing values of justice for humanity. God, as the highest source of law, wills that every human being on earth receive justice. Based on the analysis of Deuteronomy 16:18–20, the role of law enforcement authorities in realizing justice in the Republic of Indonesia includes the following: law enforcers have a responsibility to uphold justice, to side with what is right and punish what is wrong, to refrain from involvement in corruption (bribery), to accept all groups of people without discrimination, and to act as bringers of peace and joy for society.
