Hypostatic Union: Analisis Historis dan Teologis Atas Perdebatan Kristologis dan Relevansinya bagi Gereja di Indonesia

The doctrine of the Hypostatic Union is a central issue in the history of Christological debates within the Christian church. These debates emerged due to various theological views that excessively emphasized either the divinity or the humanity of Christ. This study aims to analyze the historical development of Christological controversies concerning the two natures of Christ and their relevance to the church in Indonesia. The research employs a qualitative method with a historical-theological approach through literature study of theological sources, church council documents, and academic journals. The findings indicate that the Chalcedonian Definition concerning the Hypostatic Union in one person became an essential foundation of church orthodoxy in maintaining the balance between Christ’s divinity and humanity. In the context of the Indonesian church, a comprehensive understanding of Christ’s two natures is crucial in addressing the challenges of pluralism, digital theological simplification, and weak doctrinal understanding among congregations. This study contributes to strengthening theological education and faith formation within the contemporary church.
