Allah Menyesal: Studi Eksegetis Terhadap Kejadian 6: 5-7

Abstract

The creation of man was preceded by the great deliberation, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). The fall of man into sin marred God’s image in man. Genesis 6:5 explains that man’s wickedness was “great in the earth,” but more than that, “every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” This shows that God’s repentance was a very serious event. Genesis 6 records, “Then the Lord repented.” This will give rise to the understanding that God is inconsistent in His decisions or that God can change His decisions. Another consequence may be the accusation that God who reveals himself in the Bible is not omniscient and not sovereign. The research method used is a literature review. The author's approach is hermenautics, a concept derived from hermeneuein, which means 'to express', 'to translate', 'to interpret', to achieve a deep understanding of meaning called exegesis. The purpose of this study is to find the correct theological framework in the recognition of God through an exegetical study of God's regret based on Genesis 6: 5-7, so that it can contribute to the world of ministry and education, as well as being a guide for today's believers to understand the meaning of the expression God regrets. The research results obtained are: First, God is a Holy Person, in His holiness He hates sin, referring to Genesis 6: 5-7, which is the background to God's regret. Second, God's regret wants to show that God has a personal and intimate relationship with His creation. Third, God's attitude and actions in responding to human actions are very firm, God destroys all of them from the face of the earth.
